Pharmaceutical packaging company Bemis Healthcare Packaging is investing around $25m in the expansion of its facility in Wisconsin, US.
Expected to create nearly 160 jobs, the expansion will see the renovation of a building next to its existing plant and the combining of the two buildings into one contiguous facility.
Renovation of the 110,000ft² building will increase the size of the company’s existing facility to 215,000ft². The facility is expected to be open 24/7.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said: "I am very pleased that a global company with facilities in 13 states and 11 countries has decided to grow in Wisconsin after reviewing several options for expansion.
"Bemis’ decision reaffirms what I hear from business leaders every day: Wisconsin’s skilled workforce and pro-business climate make it the ideal place to start, relocate or expand a business."
Bemis manufactures films, foil barrier laminations, pouches, bags, thermoformed trays, lids, labels and other healthcare packaging.

By GlobalDataBemis president and CEO William Austen said: "Bemis’ expansion of our healthcare packaging facility in Oshkosh complements our existing capabilities that are supported by a talented management team and an excellent workforce.
"As we extend our technological leadership in this global market, we are pleased with the additional opportunities that this investment will create for our healthcare packaging business."
The company will receive two loans of $1m each from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to support the expansion project.
One of the two loans will be waived off if the company is able to create 160 new full-time jobs and retain its existing 161 jobs through at least 2018.
The city of Oshkosh is also assisting with the project through the creation of a tax incremental financing district and by funding stormwater facilities to control runoff from Bemis and other nearby businesses.
