US-based Graphic Packaging International has announced plans to invest around $41.5m to upgrade production machinery at its West Monroe paper mill, Louisiana, US.
The investment would be used for expansion of fiber storage capacity at the West Monroe facility. The plant’s dryer section, coater and stock cleaning areas will also be upgraded.
The modernisation project will retain 1,340 employees at the company’s three sites in the state.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said: "This investment in the facility and in our state positions Graphic Packaging International as a leader in its field and ensures the continued presence of great jobs for Louisiana families."
Louisiana Economic Development offered Graphic Packaging International a competitive incentive package that includes a $720,000 Modernization Tax Credit, which has to be claimed over five years.
In June 2012, the company invested $8.6m in consumer carton production in West Monroe to quadruple container production at the consumer carton plant and introduce new packaging for beverage product lines.
