Aluminium rolling and recycling provider Novelis has commissioned a new coating line for beverage can end stock and expanded recycling centre at its complex in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil.
A subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group, Novelis has invested around $106m in both the projects.
Once fully operational, the projects will add around 100,000mt of coating capacity and 190,000mt of recycling capacity.
The investment in the projects has created around 100 jobs.
Novelis senior vice-president and South America president Tadeu Nardocci said: "These critical expansion projects increase our capacity to meet the growing demand for beverage cans in Brazil and enable Novelis to process even higher levels of recycled material as we continue to increase the recycled content in our products."
The new coating line has been specifically developed for beverage can end stock.

By GlobalDataNovelis noted that the new coating line doubles the company’s capacity to supply coated can end stock and directly serve the can customers in the region.
In the coming months, the company plans to start shipping commercial products from the new line.
The investment in the recycling facility will support the firm’s long-term commitment to increase the recycled content in its products to 80% by 2020.
When the recycling facility is fully commissioned, the company will be able to almost double its production capacity from 200,000mt to 390,000mt per year.
