Innovia Films, a division of CCL Industries, has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of a new floatable polyolefin shrink film designed for light-sensitive products.
To be marketed under the name RayoFloat white APO (WAPO), the white, low-density film is produced from polyolefin, which ensures floatability even after printing.
The new film will be manufactured at Innovia’s European facility in Płock, Poland.
Similar to the company’s existing clear film range, the new RayoFloat WAPO solution is engineered to facilitate the separation and removal of labels from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and other plastic containers during recycling.
This feature is particularly beneficial as it allows for the automatic detachment of labels in the sink or float sorting process, leading to a higher yield of high-quality PET flakes, which are essential for food-grade recycling.
The opaque nature of the film also adds to the light-blocking properties of shrink sleeves, making it a suitable solution for products in the dairy, food supplements, nutritional products, and cosmetics industries that require protection from light exposure.

By GlobalDataInnovia Europe managing director Simon Huber said: “Many light-sensitive products are packed in HDPE bottles that are not recycled back into food-grade packaging – at least not at the moment.
“This innovation is a game-changer and can enable dairy brands and other companies that have light-sensitive products to switch to a transparent PET bottle that can and will be recycled back into food-grade packaging – closing the loop.”
According to Innovia, its new RayoFloat range adheres to the new packaging guidelines set out in the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Furthermore, the film aligns with sustainability goals by supporting a closed-loop system within the production facility and incorporating up to 20% post-industrial recycled content.
Innovia EMEA Labels business unit director Lucija Kralj said: “The new PPWR that is being created by the EU will be a big driver of design for recycling.
“As all packaging will need to be recyclable by 2030 and certain recycled content targets will be mandatory, a transparent PET bottle with a floatable sleeve that automatically detached during sorting and recycling is the ideal solution.”
