Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America has received an order from ExxonMobil Chemical Company for two large-scale polyethylene (PE) plant lines near Houston, Texas.
According to Mitsubishi, the plant lines will have a combined annual production capacity of 1.3 million tonnes of plastic polyethylene, which can be used to make lighter and lower-cost packaging products with a smaller environmental footprint.

Each PE plant line also comprises reaction equipment as well as finishing, packaging and shipping equipment. Covering engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), the contract also includes the construction of utility facilities for water, air and steam.
ExxonMobil estimates that the project will create 10,000 area jobs during construction, and once operational will also create approximately $870m of economic activity annually.
Mitsubushi previosuly received an order to provide engineering design and land preparation work at the site. It has received orders for a total of 13 PE plants to date.
In 2011, the company completed a project to construct a large-scale PE plant, also with a total production capacity of 1.3 million tonnes annually, as part of a petrochemical complex owned by ExxonMobil on Jurong Island in southwest Singapore.
