Japanese printing company Toppan Printing has announced plans to invest approximately JPY10bn ($98m) to construct a new transparent barrier film manufacturing plant in Georgia, US.
The new plant, which will have site area of 145,667m² and building area of 10,555m², is claimed to be Toppan’s first transparent barrier film manufacturing site outside Japan.
The company aims to commence mass production at the plant in March 2016.
With the launch of the new plant, the company will bolster its capacity to supply transparent barrier films, including GL film, to North American and European packaging manufacturers.
Toppan expects further expansion of demand for barrier films in the global packaging market due to a range of factors, such as environmental considerations.
The North American market, where large structural shifts are taking place in the food packaging industry, is expected to witness demand for barrier films.
