The top five companies accounted for 30% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Krones filed the most robotics patents within the packaging industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 8 robotics-related patents in the quarter, compared with 10 in the previous quarter. It was followed by AGCO with 6 robotics patent filings, TKH Group (3 filings), and Connected Robotics (3 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 38% share of total patent filings
The largest share of robotics related patent filings in the packaging industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 38%, followed by Japan (10%) and Germany (7%). The share represented by the US was 18% higher than the 21% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
