The value marked an increase of 351.1% over the previous quarter and a rise of 101.6% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $1.28bn.

North America held a 51.91% share of the global packaging industry M&A deal value that totalled $4.97bn in Q3 2022. With a 31.59% share and deals worth $1.57bn, Canada was the top country in North America’s M&A deal value across packaging industry.

In terms of deal activity, North America recorded 31 deals during Q3 2022, marking an increase of 10.71% over the previous quarter and a rise of 14.81% over the last four-quarter average. The US recorded 24 deals during the quarter.

The top three packaging industry M&A deals accounted for 99.8% of the overall value during Q3 2022.

The combined value of the top three M&A deals stood at $2.58bn, against the overall value of $2.6bn recorded for the quarter.

1) Domtar’s $1.57bn acquisition deal with Resolute Forest Products
