UK’s Kite Packaging unveils new industrial tapes range
UK-based Kite Packaging launched a new range of industrial hard-wearing duct tape and paper kraft tape for the packaging sector.
Featuring durable, tear and water resistance qualities, the new duct tapes enable bonding on any surface.
The tapes are suitable for pack and wrap applications, and can also be used by warehouses to palletise goods for transit and storage.
Indian firm Dr. Reddy’s launches new patient-friendly packaging for medicines
India-based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories unveiled a new line of packaging solutions for its syrup bottles and blister packs in a bid to make them more convenient for patients.
Launched as part of its Purple Health initiative, the compant's blister packs and syrup bottles will be used for five of its brands.
The new packaging solutions were the result of a partnership with US-based design and consulting firm IDEO.

Austria-based Prinzhorn Group’s subsidiary Dunapack Eurobox Polska was planning to set up a second green-field corrugated packaging plant in Lubliniec, Poland.
Planned to be opened across 12ha of land, the proposed plant will feature a 2.8m-wide high-speed corrugator, as well as various multi-colour printing and die-cutting box-machines.
With the new plant, Dunapack Eurobox aims to support its group integration strategy, reduce its environmental footprint as well as improve service and regional coverage.
Luxembourg’s Ardagh Group launches two new amber glass beer bottles
Luxembourg-based glass container manufacturer Ardagh Group unveiled two new 500ml amber glass beer bottles.
Made in the US, the new EURO and Vichy bottles are provided in Natural Kraft 12-pack cases with partitions.
Both of the fully recyclable bottles will be made available for sale on Ardagh Group’s BOB site.
Amcor to acquire Sonoco’s North American rigid plastics blow moulding unit
Australian packaging solutions provider Amcor entered an agreement to acquire Sonoco Products Company’s North American rigid plastics blow moulding operations.
The $280m deal was subject to regulatory approvals in the US.
With six production sites in the US and one in Canada, Sonoco Products Company currently generates annual sales of around $210m and serves various sub-segments in the personal care and specialty food markets.
New study highlights methods to improve flexible packaging end-of-life options
Research carried out by Materials Recovery for the Future (MRFF) found that existing automated sorting technologies can be optimised to capture flexible plastic packaging, potentially producing a new stream of recovered materials.
The process was published in a resource recycling systems (RRS) report, titled ‘Flexible Packaging Sortation at Materials Recovery Facilities’.
The research programme demonstrated that with sufficient screening and optical sorting capacity, flexible plastic packaging can be captured in a single-stream materials recovery facility (MRF).
Huhtamaki North America to open new facility in Arizona for foodservice packaging
Huhtamaki North America was planning to open a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Goodyear, Arizona, US, to serve west coast foodservice packaging and retail tableware markets.
In the next two years, more than $100m will be invested to carry out modifications, infrastructure and equipment installation at the facility, which was purchased from Cohen Asset Management.
Once completed, the 750,000ft² facility will create around 300 jobs.
X-Rite Pantoneto unveils new colour control solutions for packaging and label printing
US-based X-Rite Pantoneto, a subsidiary of X-Rite, was set to launch new solutions for specifying, communicating, and reproducing reliable colour for the packaging and label printing sectors.
Unveiled at Labelexpo Americas 2016 in September, the solutions include ColorCert 2.7, PantoneLIVE, PantoneLIVE Digital Drawdowns, PantoneLIVE Digital Tolerance Guide, X-Rite eXact Xp and InkFormulation Software Version 6.3.
Esko, a sister company of X-Rite Pantone, also exhibited newly launched solutions at the event.
Switzerland’s Clariant to unveil new desiccant canisters with red labels
Switzerland-based specialty chemicals group Clariant’s healthcare packaging business unit was set to launch new desiccant canisters with red labelling to help differentiate them from drug products.
Made from US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Union (EU)-compliant materials, the coloured labels exhibit ‘Do Not Eat’ in various languages.
The labels also feature an outer varnish coating to prohibit ink from coming in direct contact with the drug.
Indian packaging firm Uflex develops Melamine-free acrylic-coated film
Indian flexible packaging company Uflex developed a Grade ‘F-AMF’, Melamine-free, acrylic-coated bi-axially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) film.
The company said that the new film is clear, transparent, and puncture and hot fill-resistant.
Uflex chairman and managing director Ashok Chaturvedi said: “Melamine-free acrylic-coated BOPET film is a testament to Uflex’s unwavering commitment towards consumer safety and customer satisfaction across the globe."
