Production Occupations, with a share of 17%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the packaging industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings rising by 30% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 11% in Q2 2024, with new job postings rising by 23% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2024, Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 8% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in packaging industry accounted for 43% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Berry Global Group, International Paper, DS Smith, Ball, and Smurfit WestRock. Together they accounted for a combined share of 43% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the packaging industry.
Berry Global Group posted 603 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q2 2024, International Paper 375 jobs, DS Smith 353 jobs, Ball 343 jobs, and Smurfit WestRock 219 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 69.81% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024
The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the packaging industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 69.81% followed by the UK (4.48%) and Canada (2.87%). The share represented by the US was five percentage points higher than the 65.06% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
