UK supermarket chain Aldi has enhanced its sustainability commitment with the launch of 100% recyclable packaging for its boxed cereal brand.
As part of this initiative, Aldi will use a recyclable alternative to replace the plastic inner bags holding the cereal.
To be implemented before the end of this year, the change will remove approximately 650t of non-recyclable plastic a year.
The change is in line with Aldi’s commitment to make all of its own-brand packaging recyclable, compostable or reusable by the end of 2022.
Additionally, the supermarket chain pledged to make all packaging recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025.
Aldi plastic and packaging director Chris McKenry said: “Making such a popular product range fully recyclable will have a huge positive impact.

“This change to our cereal range is just one of a number of initiatives we have in the pipeline that will help us to reach our goal of all packaging, including branded products, being recyclable, compostable or reusable in the next five years.”
In July this year, Aldi committed to eliminate two billion single use plastic from its operations by the end of 2025.
The retailer also revealed plans to launch new cardboard packaging for its complete steak products range in the UK stores starting October.
