Global plastic packaging manufacturer ALPLA has received approval for its near-term climate targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
ALPLA has committed to a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2030, aligning its objectives with the 1.5°C target set by the Paris Climate Agreement.
The company aims to reduce absolute scope 2 GHG emissions, which result from the company’s energy consumption, by 42% by 2030, using 2021 as the base year.
Moreover, the company plans to cut scope 3 GHG emissions, associated with purchased goods and services, as well as the processing of sold products, by 51.6% per tonne of purchased raw materials within the same timeframe.
The endorsement of ALPLA’s climate targets by the SBTi confirms that the company’s strategies are scientifically valid and meet stringent environmental standards.
To achieve these targets, ALPLA has outlined six key measures, including enhancing energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable electricity, and collaborating with its customers to this end.
