Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe) has collaborated with Hernö Gin to create a new lightweight 500ml glass bottle.
This new bottle is the gin brand’s first custom design and showcases an upgraded graphic profile.
It is produced and decorated at the Limmared facility in Sweden of AGP-Europe, the operation business of Ardagh Group.
The bottle design incorporates an embossed image of the Hernö copper still, along with the inscription ‘Hernö Gin Distillery Home of Swedish Gin’ on the bottle’s shoulder.
Weighing 480g, the new bottle is said to be 100g lighter than its predecessor.
This weight reduction, coupled with a substantial increase in recycled cullet content, has led to a 31% decrease in carbon emissions per bottle, according to Ardagh Group.

By GlobalDataCommenting on the bottle design, Hernö Gin CEO Emma Edfors said: “Following in-depth design and development work, we are proud to present a visual upgrade to the Hernö bottle that is also a major sustainability investment.
“We are so proud of our new bottle. For us, glass is the obvious choice. By moving production to Ardagh in Sweden, we are minimising our transport, and thereby significantly lowering our climate footprint. We think this is an important and sustainable choice.”
The launch of the lightweight bottle will initially be for Hernö Gin’s most popular products: Hernö Dry Gin, Hernö Old Tom Gin, and Hernö Botanical Gin.
AGP-Sweden sales manager Magnus Ridefjord said: “The new bottles have been produced on the multiproduction line at AGP-Limmared in Sweden, which offers the flexibility of producing different bottle shapes and sizes together.
“The technology developed by our sister company, Heye International, is ideal for customers that want to produce specialist bottles for the premium drinks sector.”
Earlier this month, AGP-Europe began producing green hydrogen for glass melting at its Limmared plant in Sweden.
