US-based company Atlantic Packaging is set to open a new packaging solution centre in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 80,000ft2 Solution Centre will involve an investment of $10m and will focus on advanced research, testing and shipping certification.

The new facility will offer a multi-axis transportation simulator for unit load testing in the consumer products industry.

Built by Lansmont and TEAM, the system simulates real-world transit conditions and is claimed to be the accurate testing equipment for the packaging industry.

Atlantic Packaging president Wes Carter said: “If one of our customers is experiencing damage in transit, we can literally recreate that specific route in our centre to see where and how their products are failing.

“This allows us to create customised packaging solutions based on scientific data, virtually eliminating shipping damage and reducing overall packaging costs.”

"If one of our customers is experiencing damage in transit, we can literally recreate that specific route in our centre to see where and how their products are failing."

The facility will allow the customers to test for the right combination of equipment settings, materials and automation and identify packaging solutions that will protect their products.

It also features a packaging lab used for analysing flexible materials and multiple fully integrated packaging lines to exhibit the latest in equipment automation.

One of the lines will be used to e-commerce automation with the latest equipment from protective packaging companies such as Sealed Air, Ranpak, and 3M.

The centre is scheduled to open in the second week of this month.
