Borealis has unveiled Borcycle M CWT120CL, a recycled linear low-density polyethylene (rLLDPE) grade, which is claimed to promote circularity in nonfood flexible packaging.

Boasting 85% post-consumer recyclate (PCR) and 15% LLDPE booster, the solution represents the latest flexible packaging grade derived from Borealis’ mechanical recycling technology.

The new grade is specifically designed for blown film applications in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging.

It is suitable for use in stretch film, stretch hoods, and films used in the agricultural, industrial, and protective sectors.

Borealis said that by decreasing the carbon footprint of finished products, the rLLDPE grade aids its customers in meeting their sustainability objectives and promotes the move towards more eco-friendly packaging.

Borcycle M CWT120CL was created in collaboration with Ecoplast, a member of the Borealis Group, as part of a project that commenced in late 2022.

Its launch in January 2025 marks the completion of more than two years of work to tackle the challenges of incorporating a high level of recycled content into the solution.

Borealis noted that the material offers stretchability, low gel content, and a balance of toughness and stiffness.

These attributes make it a suitable option for packaging manufacturers who need to comply with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation without affecting performance.

Borealis Consumer Products Flexibles commercial director Peter Voortmans said: “With its impressive 85% post-consumer recyclate content, this new rLLDPE grade represents a major step on the path to a circular economy for plastics.

“Borcycle M CWT120CL will help our customers meet their sustainability targets while maintaining the high performance standards required for demanding flexible packaging applications – just one of the ways we’re reinventing essentials for sustainable living.”

Earlier this month, Borealis enhanced its thermoforming portfolio with the release of the HC609TF solution for advanced packaging applications.
