The Bridgend County Borough Council in the UK has confirmed that the community recycling centres will reopen for essential use only on 26 May 2020.
The council has set the date with the Welsh Government as part of the all-Wales approach for the safe reopening of recycling sites.
It is working with construction and infrastructure services company Kier to develop procedures, processes and restrictions to ensure that the site is accessible for essential use without exposing staff and users to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bridgend County Borough Council deputy leader Hywel Williams said: “The council and Kier are currently setting up the procedures which will be in operation at the recycling sites, and we will be making further announcements about this very soon.
“However, we cannot stress strongly enough that the sites will be for essential use only, and that householders should only visit them if they cannot safely store materials at home until lockdown is over.”
The move comes after changes were introduced to lockdown requirements in Wales that saw temporarily closure of recycling centres in an effort to combat the spread of the pandemic.

Communities Cabinet Member and Councillor Richard Young said: “We are anticipating that the sites will be in high demand and that queues are inevitable, especially as users will need to observe the temporary procedures that we will have in place to limit exposure, so please only visit them if it is absolutely necessary.”
