Cascades is set to invest $80m to construct a new containerboard packaging plant in Piscataway, New Jersey, US.
The new 400,000ft2 plant will focus on manufacturing corrugated packaging products and will create 120 new jobs.
It is expected to commence operations from the second quarter of next year.
Cascades president and CEO Mario Plourde said: “The investment announced today, which is already included in our capital expenditure budget, is part of the deployment of our strategic plan that aims specifically to modernise our assets and increase the integration rate between our primary production and conversion activities.
“It is also part of our continuing process to reorganise and consolidate our containerboard and packaging activities in the north-eastern US.”
After the equipment has been installed, the plant's total annual production capacity will be 2.4 billion square feet, representing an increase in the integration rate of around 5%.
