Printed and laminated flexible packaging materials producer Cellpack Packaging has increased its production capacity with the installation of a Bobst SL 1000 duplex laminator.
Commissioned in September 2012 at the company’s production site located in Germany, the equipment was installed to replace a 20-year-old machine in a bid to increase the plant’s solventless lamination capacity.
The lamination equipment has been designed to enhance solventless coating systems as well as web-handling systems for packaging applications. With the lamination equipment in place, the materials’ web tension can be maintained at low tolerances for a line of flexible substrates with different physical properties and varying thicknesses. This allows the production of consistently better quality laminated structures.
Cellpack Lauterecken plant manager Rainer Hellwig said: "The web handling capabilities of the SL 1000 enable to run a broader range of substrates at high production speed, up to 450m/min depending on the web combination and process conditions."
The user-friendly equipment is suitable for fast job setups and changeovers that lead to major improvements in turnaround times, while simultaneously reducing waste.
Cellpack, part of the Switzerland-based BBC Group, prints and converts around 15,000t of flexible material annually from its four production sites located in Germany, Switzerland, France and the Czech Republic.
