India-based biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films manufacturer Cosmo Films has extended its range of direct thermal printable (DTP) products.
The range will now include standard DTP films, top-coated DTP films, high-temperature DTP films and DTP paper.
Direct thermal printing is primarily used for tagging and labelling applications to print critical information, such as barcodes.
In direct thermal printing, the required image or impression forms when the coated substrate comes in contact with the print head of the thermal printer eliminating the need of an ink ribbon for printing.
Cosmo Films Speciality Labeling Exports head Kapil Anand said: “Direct thermal printing has been gaining significant prominence in recent times due to its ease of use, low total applied cost and optimum image density and we are glad that we can offer both paper and filmic solutions for a wide range of applications now being printed by this printing technology.”
The company’s new BOPP-based top coated direct thermal printable film is water and solvent-resistant.

Cosmo Films noted that BOPP can endure extreme temperatures between -20°C and 70°C.
The company is also offering another variety with an endurance level as high as 130°C.
The product can be used for meat packaging and carcass tagging applications.
Cosco Films also plans to launch direct thermal printable paper in both top-coated and uncoated varieties.
