Global packaging products manufacturer Coveris has completed the installation of two new extrusion lines at its facility in Winsford, UK.
Coveris said the investment is in line with its sustainable growth strategy, ‘Pack Positive’, which aims to provide smarter plastics in a bid to reduce waste and improve recyclability.
With the installation of two additional five-layer co-extrusion lines, Coveris reportedly intends to further strengthen its position in the technical films sector and invest in more sustainable and functional film alternatives.
Coveris UK president Gary Rehwinkel said: “Given the current focus on plastics packaging and the need to offer more recyclable solutions, our new investment strategically positions Coveris to further support this transition into more sustainable plastics.
“As the UK market’s leading manufacturer of recycle-ready films, no other co-extrusion plant in the country has the flexibility and capacity Coveris has.”
By bringing new machines to its UK facility, Coveris intends to create additional capacity of 5,000t of recycle-ready mono-polymer films for the food and manufacturing segment.

By GlobalDataCoveris’s Winsford facility currently manufactures more than 40,000t of polyethene (PE) films per year.
Last year, the company collaborated with Co-op to develop a multi-layer polyester barrier solution that enables lidding film to be directly heat-sealed to a mono plastic tray.
The manufacturer further explained that removing the PE bonding layer from the tray will allow recycling of 80% of the pack weight.
Coveris Global recently sold its US packaging branch to Transcontinental in a deal that allowed the company to focus on its flexible and rigid business in Europe.
