International packaging company DS Smith has introduced an innovative online retail packaging solution for Funzy, a company specialising in modular play sofas for children.

This new packaging is designed with multiple secondary uses for the end users.

It is crafted from DS Smith’s corrugated cardboard, which offers protection during product transportation and storage.

This cardboard can be transformed into a shelf and toys for children.

The bottom flap features die-cuts that children can assemble into various figures such as rockets and rocking horses.

The material is also craft-friendly, allowing for personalisation with paint and stickers.

According to DS Smith, the packaging design is aimed at fostering a learning process, with the unboxing experience itself offering excitement and inspiration for both children and adults.

DS Smith Germany and Switzerland packaging division account manager Julian Rasp said: “We are happy to assist Funzy in contributing to the circular economy by designing a custom sustainable packaging solution for their products, while also raising children’s awareness of reusing and upcycling through the secondary use of the packaging.”

In June this year, Carlsberg Poland announced the trial of DS Smith Round Wrap, which incorporates Arcwise technology, across its Carlsberg, Garage, and Somersby beer product ranges.
