DS Smith Plastics Slovakia has launched a new BuyBack programme that collects single-use polypropylene plastics from customers in order to recycle and convert them into new products.
The programme has been designed to prevent polypropylene plastics from ending up in landfills and oceans by providing a constant flow or a closed loop system.

Polypropylene plastic sheets are fully recyclable, and with the launch of the initiative, the company ensures the collection and constant flow of plastic waste away from landfills and oceans.
As part of the BuyBack programme, DS Smith customer BA Glass Bulgaria ships back 30t of end-of life polypropylene plastics layer pads to the company’s plastics division.
Located in Hurbanovo, Slovakia, the Plastics division recycles and re-purposes the layer pads into new products.
BA Glass, which is a major glass bottle manufacturer in Bulgaria, uses extruded polypropylene sheets from the DS Smith Plastics Slovakia site as layer pads to transport their glass bottles from one location to other.
In the near future, DS Smith Plastics Slovakia intends to promote and increase the number of customers supporting the BuyBack programme.
In addition, Rapak, a part of DS Smith’s Plastics division, has developed a new custom designed bag-in-box bag and quick connecting system for a juice concentrate dispensing unit to be used for dispensing fruit juice in hotels, restaurants and other hospitality establishments.
