DuPont Protection Solutions has introduced the new Tyvek 40L medical packaging solution, a new class under its Tyvek packaging applications to protect lightweight and low-risk medical devices.
Unveiled in China as an alternative to high-end medical papers, the Tyvek 40L will be globally rolled out late next year.
DuPont Tyvek Medical and Pharmaceutical Packaging global business leader Margaret Pyers said: “The addition of Tyvek 40L to our family of Tyvek styles for medical and pharmaceutical packaging is the latest example of our long-standing and ongoing commitment to making a world of greater good possible.
“Tyvek 40L fills a previously unmet need for a better material to package lightweight, low-risk Class I and IIa devices, especially in emerging Asian markets.”
The Tyvek 40L maintains sterility of the devices until usage, generates less particulates, and offers puncture and tear-resistance during transportation and handling.
The solution is also compatible with most sterilisation methods, including ethylene oxide (EO) and gamma radiation sterilisation.

By GlobalDataDuPont noted that the new solution demonstrated better strength and breathability compared to heavy basis weight papers.
Tyvek 40L comes with an embossed, linen-like package that peels cleanly when opening and due to its low basis weight, it delivers packaging source reduction opportunities, thereby supporting sustainability efforts.
Besides the Tyvek 40L, the medical packaging portfolio of the company includes Tyvek 1073B, Tyvek 1059B and Tyvek 2FS solutions.
DuPont Protection Solutions introduced Tyvek in 1972 in order to maintain sterility of medical devices and supplies by providing cost-effective packaging solutions.
