US-based Evergreen Packaging has developed a renewable ice cream board under its Sentinel line of paper and paperboard products.
The new ice cream board has been developed by combining renewable paperboard with a renewable sugarcane-based polyethylene coating.
The sugarcane-based polyethylene was supplied by Braskem.
Developed using custom extrusion technology, the new Sentinel ice cream board is suitable for retail food service and food packaging applications.
It also offers customers a fully renewable board option for ice cream packaging.
Evergreen Packaging global board sales managing director of Chris Johns said: “Our new ice cream board reflects our dual commitment to customers and consumers.

By GlobalData“For our customers, this is a product that runs dependably and seamlessly like other forms of polyethylene coated stock and provides an excellent print surface.
“Consumers can feel good about purchasing products in packaging using this board because it is fully renewable.”
Paper-based packaging solutions provider Burd and Fletcher has already used the board to produce its new Envy ice cream container.
Burd and Fletcher chief sales officer John Nycklemoe said: “We believe that the introduction of our Envy ice cream container will not only assist with the growing sustainability movement in the frozen dairy market, but also contribute to solidifying consumers brand loyalty by providing more eco-friendly options at shelf.”
Evergreen’s Sentinel paper and paperboard line currently includes foodservice board and cupstock, as well as food-grade packaging board and flexible packaging paper.
