Danish food packaging specialist Faerch Plast has developed a new dual ovenable skin pack for meat and poultry packaging that can be placed directly into the oven or microwave without removing any immediate packaging.
The development forms part of the company’s strategy to increase its market share in the meat and poultry sector.
The lightweight ovenable CPET packaging has been developed under a partnership with ABP and Bemis Flexible Packaging.
Faerch Plast said that Bemis Flexible Packaging’s SkinCOOK topweb allows the food packed in skin packs to be cooked from chilled or frozen without the need to unwrap it, while retaining moisture and juices during the cooking process.
According to the company, the ovenable skin packs, when formed into a contoured top web, can accomodate larger products, such as chicken pieces and meats.
Faerch Plast UK managing director Joe Iannidinardo said: "The packs also offer enhanced consumer appeal, shelf space efficiency and maximum protection to products during transit and in store.
"Cooking time is reduced by up to 20% for a conventional oven and 40% for microwave, and there are no unsightly meat juices on show.
"Plus there is significant shelf life improvement, which helps reduce food waste."
