Faller Packaging, a folding cartons and adhesive label provider, has launched a new tamper-evident label that is fully recyclable.
The label meets the stringent EU-wide mandatory standard EN 16679:2014.
This innovation also aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainable packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.
The monomaterial label is made from a fibre-based, unmixed material sourced from sustainable forestry, ensuring it can be recycled without the need for sorting.
It not only offers recyclability but also provides enhanced counterfeit protection with its first-opening indication feature. It leaves a residue if removed, indicating potential tampering.
Faller has designed the label to be placed over the tuck-in flap of folding cartons, making any tampering immediately visible.

By GlobalDataAdditional perforations facilitate easy opening, although they are not strictly necessary for the label’s functionality.
In terms of production, the tamper-evident label boasts excellent machinability and transparency, allowing existing folding carton designs to remain unchanged, the company noted.
The label’s acrylate-based adhesive, developed specifically for pharmaceutical applications, ensures strong initial and final adhesion to lacquer-free and dispersion-coated cartons.
Faller product manager Niklas Mößner said: “For the outer material, we opted for a semitransparent paper made from pure cellulose fibres, with no chemical additives.
“The product is therefore biodegradable and can be recycled. In combination with a fibre-based folding carton or an outsert leaflet, the result is an unmixed end product that can be fed into the recycling process without sorting and thus achieves the maximum recycling rate.
“We are very proud of this tamperproof and sustainable label solution that we can now offer to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. For us, sustainability is a central component of our corporate DNA and more relevant than ever.”
