Greiner Packaging and Constantia Flexibles have joined forces to introduce a fully home-compostable coffee capsule solution.

The collaboration sees Greiner Packaging producing the capsule body while Constantia Flexibles provides the EcoPressoLid, a compostable lid.

The capsule body is said to maintain the coffee’s freshness and is designed for use with standard coffee capsule machines.

This solution offers a sustainable alternative and endorses a circular economy by cutting environmental impact.

Greiner Packaging global business development manager Taner Ertan said: “We are committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable packaging solutions. Our collaboration with Constantia Flexibles on the home-compostable coffee capsule embodies our shared vision for a greener future.

“This innovative product not only meets the high expectations of eco-conscious consumers but also sets a new standard in the industry. We are proud to contribute to a solution that balances convenience and environmental responsibility,”

Constantia Flexibles’ EcoPressoLid reportedly boasts a high oxygen barrier and superior sealing properties for compostable coffee capsules and coffee brewing capabilities.

The paper-based lid is also compatible with the prevalent capsule filling and sealing machines in the market.

In addition, EcoPressoLid can seal both the top and bottom of the capsules.

Both the capsule body and lid have been awarded the ‘OK Compost Home’ certification from verification body TÜV Austria.

Constantia Flexibles Processed Meat & Beverages SVP head Peter Wallach said: “The EcoPressoLid capsule liner is a significant step towards more sustainable coffee consumption. We are especially proud of our partnership with Greiner Packaging, as it allows us to offer a complete, TÜV Austria-certified solution to our customers.”

The compostable coffee capsule solution developed by the two companies is a response to current consumer preferences and the principles of the circular economy.

Last month, Constantia Flexibles introduced EcoTwistPaper, its new sustainable confectionery packaging solution.
