Plastic packaging manufacturer Greiner Packaging has redesigned and created new packaging for Bayerische Milchindustrie (BMI) cooperative dairy’s ayran cup.

The new cup features a unique surface structure that provides it a metal-hammertone look.

In 2015, BMI approached Greiner to provide a new appearance for its ayran drink.

An in-house team of Greiner comprising Design & Prototyping division DesPro, project management and technicians developed the new packaging.

“Transferring the characteristic hammertone look of the copper cups to a plastic cup initially presented us with a few challenges.”

Greiner Packaging key account manager Christian Platzer said: “Our goal was to bring the plastic cup as close to the design of the original cup as possible.

“However, transferring the characteristic hammertone look of the copper cups to a plastic cup initially presented us with a few challenges.”

Greiner noted that the surface indentations on the cup comprise different sizes, which were removed following intensive development by the in-house team.

The two 250ml cups are currently available in white and copper, while the latter strongly resembles the original cup, offering a high degree of recognisability.

The white cup will be commercialised primarily at the retail level and the copper-coloured cup will be promoted to foreign ethnic markets.

Greiner has also developed a special colour granulate with metallic pigmentation to provide an authentic drink experience to customers.

Greiner Packaging consists of two business units, namely the packaging business unit with the product groups K and Kavo, and the Assistec business unit.

The company operates in more than 19 countries and provides a wide variety of plastic packaging.
