US-based healthcare injection moulding maker GW Plastics is set to expand advanced manufacturing operations in Sligo, Ireland.
The company entered Europe in 2017 with the acquisition of Avenue Mould Solutions and is serving the medical device and drug delivery industries.
As part of the expansion, the company is investing around €6m on product development, precision tooling, thermoplastic and silicone injection moulding. It is also advancing in contract assembly capabilities in Europe.
The investment will allow the company to expand moulding operations into a 28,000ft² facility in Sligo, Ireland.
Avenue Mould Solutions general manager Gerard Henn said: “Our ability to develop lasting relationships with our customers from all over the world and partner early in the development process to leverage our world-class engineering, tooling and highly standardised global production capabilities allows us to offer innovative and cost-effective solutions.
“We are thrilled to continue growing these capabilities in Europe and offer more value to our customers.”
On behalf of the Irish Government, IDA Ireland is offering its support to the company on this expansion.
The packaging firm expects that this expansion will complement its precision mould-building, advanced injection moulding and contract manufacturing capabilities in the US, Mexico, and China.
GW Plastics produces surgical components, diagnostic devices and drug delivery systems. The company expanded its network by adding precision mould-building facilities of Avenue Mould Solutions in North America, Asia, and Europe.
Avenue also allows the company to manufacture ultra-high-cavitation tooling for medical device, diagnostics and pharmaceutical markets.
