Temperature-controlled packaging solutions provider, Hydropac, has announced ice pack sealing technology designed to revolutionise pet food cold chain logistics.
Maintaining consistent temperatures during transportation is critical for preserving the nutritional value and freshness of pet food, especially for sensitive products.
Hydropac’s new ice packs address this challenge by offering enhanced insulation, extended cooling duration, and superior leak resistance.
Breaking away from traditional designs
Conventional ice packs are typically manufactured as tubes filled with liquid coolant. These designs can suffer from uneven cooling, with certain areas becoming excessively cold while others remain warmer.
Additionally, traditional ice packs are prone to leaks and condensation, which can damage packaging and compromise product integrity.
Hydropac utilises a two-layer material construction sealed on all four sides.

Key advantages
Enhanced insulation: Hydropac’s ice packs shield pet food from temperature fluctuations during transport, maintaining the desired temperature range and preserving freshness and nutritional value.
Extended cooling duration: The manufacturing method allows for longer cooling times, ideal for long-distance deliveries.
Superior leak resistance: Unlike traditional ice packs, Hydropac’s design minimises the risk of leaks and condensation, protecting both packaging and pet food from contamination. These ice packs boast a burst strength exceeding 200kg.
Industry impact
“Our innovation in ice pack sealing technology is designed to address the specific challenges faced by the many industries that rely on quality and efficient cold chain transportation,” said Cat Mitton, Hydropac’s customer experience manager.
“With pet owners increasingly prioritising the health and well-being of their furry companions, it’s crucial for the pet food industry to uphold stringent standards in product safety and quality assurance and this includes transportation and packaging.”
Hydropac’s ice pack sealing technology is compatible with various packaging formats and can be customised to meet the specific needs of pet food manufacturers and distributors, ensuring consistent temperature control throughout the entire supply chain.
