
Inspection, product testing and certification company Intertek has unveiled a new packaging performance testing facility in its Grand Rapids laboratory in Michigan, US.
The facility is the company’s first International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) accredited packaging lab in North America.
Services offered by the new facility include end-to-end evaluation of product packages with a focus on design, material assessment and sustainability.
Intertek business development general manager Brian Kneibel said: “Intertek’s focus has always been to provide services that help our customers bring quality and safety to life.
“We have seen the growth of e-commerce and evolution of supply chains impact our customers in multiple ways, including packaging.

According to the company, manufacturers and retailers are required to ensure the integrity of their packaging in the growing e-commerce and globalisation of supply chains.
Intertek currently operates 15 ISTA-accredited packaging labs to support supplier networks, manufacturers and retailers in packaging needs and quality assurance.
The company has a network of more than 1,000 laboratories and offices in 100 countries globally.
It employs more than 43,000 people to offer assurance, testing, inspection and certification solutions to its customers.
Intertek serves customers in various industries such as food contact, polymers and plastics, industrial and consumer products, cosmetics, medical, agricultural and pharmaceuticals among others.
