UK-based snack producer Isle of Wight Biltong (IOW Biltong) has installed vertical form, fill and seal packing equipment from KernPack to enhance its production.
The KernPack machine is capable of producing 22 packets a minute, increasing IOW Biltong’s production by 600%.
IOW Biltong owner Sarah Greeff said that the KernPack packaging equipment has enhanced the company’s retail sales as well as the production process.
"Vast improvements in both packing speed and seal quality have opened new retail avenues which simply weren’t there before and have led to a doubling in turnover," Greeff said.
KernPack claims that its equipment provides packaging that increases the shelf-life of food items.
Kern general manager Pete Jolley said: "Productivity, shelf-life and presentation are all critical factors when trying to grow a small food business and we’re delighted to have played a part in helping a nearby producer go from strength to strength."
KernPack equipment features a gas flush system designed to expel all oxygen from the packets before inserting an inert gas and sealing the product.
Isle of Wight Biltong is now offering its additive-free snacks in five co-operative stores in the UK and a further three independent retailers in Germany, Slovakia and the Netherlands.
