UK-based packaging firm Linpac has installed a third extruder at its Ritterhude facility in Germany, which has increased its capacity to generate 100% recycled content.
The firm already had been manufacturing mono sheet averaging 93% post-consumer recyclate (PCR) at the site.
This new installation increases the production capacity and offers on-site flexibility to produce 100% recycled content.
This investment for extruder installation is expected to help Linpac in meeting the rising demands for PET and rPET products in north-west Europe.
Demands for such products are gradually increasing across Europe owing to their versatility, recyclability, lightweight nature, and barrier and food safe properties.
Linpac northern Europe managing director Adam Barnett said: "This major investment demonstrates our commitment to an important market for Linpac.

By GlobalData"It is vital that, as the German market continues its shift from PP towards PET, we are able to meet growing customer demand for products which are lighter, cheaper and more sustainable.
"The installation of the new extruder in Ritterhude extends our capabilities greatly and being able to manufacture using 100% post-consumer recyclate is a major breakthrough for Linpac in north-west Europe. It will enable us to offer a wider variety of products to customers to ensure they receive the best packaging for their application."
The firm has already invested around €9m in new plant and equipment at its two German sites over the last five years, €3m of which had been spent on PET extrusion and automation facilities in Ritterhude.
