US-based United Parcel Service (UPS) subsidiary Marken has expanded its portfolio with a new automated closed-loop packaging solution to ship clinical trial materials.
The company has developed the solution in partnership with various companies involved in offering temperature-controlled packaging solutions.
According to the company, the new solution will use an integrated and automated packaging returns process to ensure critical drug shipments for reconditioning and repositioning.
The company will track its packaging inventory between origin and destination and is returned to a central location to leverage the small package network of its parent company UPS.
Marken CEO Wes Wheeler said: “This service reduces the need for our clients to rely on multiple companies to provide return packaging services.
“Marken has the capability to manage the used packaging, recondition it in one of our global facilities and re-position it at the lowest possible cost.
“This unique service offers tremendous savings for our clients who rely on expensive, reusable packaging for moving their clinical drug product.”
The supply chain company is currently offering the closed-loop service from its locations in Philadelphia, US; Frankfurt, Germany; and Paris, France. It also plans to expand the service to more locations this year.
Marken offers patient-centric supply chain solutions to pharmaceutical and life sciences industries.
The company currently operates the depot network and logistic hubs across 48 locations globally to facilitate clinical trial material storage and distribution. It has more than 900 employees to serve customers in more than 150 countries.
