Metsä Board has developed a new lightweight, multipurpose packaging solution for Finnish cosmetics brand HejBuddy.
The new space-saving promotional packaging is crafted from microflute corrugated board alongside white kraftliner.
It offers a 50% weight reduction compared to traditional rigid boxes, which are typically made from recycled fibres and imported from Asia in a fully assembled form, consuming significant container space.
The design of the new packaging allows for minimal storage requirements as it can be easily folded into a box when needed and recycled effortlessly after use.
HejBuddy founder Niina Tuominen said: “We wanted eye-catching packaging, produced with the environment in mind. Nature is an important value for our company, and I’m a forest owner myself. It was important that our partner shared our values, and Metsä Board’s sustainable approach made them the perfect fit.”
The microflute boxes also feature a customisable sleeve to meet different branding requirements.

Metsä Board packaging services director Ilkka Harju said: “The objective was to develop a better solution to rigid boxes. The new microflute paperboard packaging offers a flexible alternative for our customers. It’s durable and lightweight, perfect for brands seeking both style and practicality.”
Last month, Metsä Board teamed up with Finnish confectionery company Kouvolan Lakritsi to introduce a new mug packaging solution for liquorice.
Developed from fresh fibre paperboard, the new packaging is resealable, keeping the product fresh and addressing consumer concerns such as stickiness.
