By GlobalDataThe investment has been revised from €310m to €340m following refinements to the machine’s technical concept and higher construction costs. The machine is expected to be operational by the end of 2020.
Mondi Group CEO Peter Oswald said: “This investment provides an exciting opportunity for Mondi to leverage our cost-advantaged mill in Slovakia to complement our portfolio and serve a growing market with innovative and sustainable containerboard solutions.”
Once operational, the machine will produce new containerboard grade kraft top white combining various benefits of white virgin fibre top layer and recycled fibre bottom layer.
With the kraft top white, the company will focus on the white top liner markets for applications such as shelf-ready packaging, point of sale displays, customised packaging, e-commerce, and consumer durables.
Late next year, the company is also planning to commence production on the pulp mill at Ruzomberok plant following the upgrade.
According to the company, the upgrade will limit pulp production by 100,000t per annum.
Mondi will also integrate the pulp into the containerboard production of the new machine once it is operational.
