Global packaging and paper company Mondi has published its sustainability development report for 2023, highlighting significant progress in its sustainability initiatives.
The company noted that 85% of its revenue for the year came from packaging products that are reusable, recyclable, or compostable, according to its Path to Circularity Scorecard.
Throughout 2023, Mondi carried out impact assessments for 1,145 products and calculated the carbon footprints of 146 products.
The company also made strides in waste reduction by cutting its total waste to landfill by approximately 50,600 tonnes (t) and realised a 44% reduction in specific waste to landfill since 2020.
In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, Mondi delivered a 22% reduction in absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions compared with its 2019 baseline, and a 4% reduction since the previous year.
For scope 3 emissions, the reduction was 21% compared with the 2019 baseline, and 9% since last year.

By GlobalDataOverall, the absolute emissions reduction across scopes 1, 2, and 3 for 2023 was 21%, with a 7% decrease since last year.
Mondi also reported that 100% of its fibre was responsibly sourced in 2023, with 75% being Forest Stewardship Council or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification-certified.
The company said it provided 503,000 hours of training during the year, with 45% of those hours dedicated to safety training.
Its 2023 Employee Survey saw participation from more than 16,800 employees, resulting in a 79% score in the Purposeful Workplace Index and a 77% score in the Inclusiveness Index.
