US-based speciality paper product manufacturer Neenah has introduced an advanced sustainable packaging tape backing.
Named RECYCOTAPE, the tape backing is fully recyclable and breaks down with shipping or packaging boxes, so does not need to be removed from the box.
Fibres used in manufacturing the product are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and can easily re-pulp and enable coating removal during the recycling process.
These base papers offer usable fibre to reprocess into new paper.
Neenah tape product manager Chris Boothby said: “There is a growing interest in the market for an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional packaging tapes and a viable replacement for plastic-based, non-recyclable tapes used to seal corrugated boxes. RECYCOTAPE is both.
“RECYCOTAPE is everything that customers expect from Neenah; high tensile strength, premium printability, superior extensibility, and sustainably manufactured.
“We’re excited to now meet consumer demand with a state-of-the-art tape backing product that performs beautifully without compromising the environment.”
Based in Alpharetta, Georgia, Neenah specialises in filtration media, speciality coatings, engineered materials and premium packaging.
It has manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and the UK, serving customers in six continents.
The company reported a 67% rise in net sales to $269.3m in the second quarter of this year, as against $161.4m a year earlier.
In May, Neenah added an ultra-lightweight reinforced paper solution to its single-use sterile packaging range.
The solution is of a 72g to a square metre (gsm) grade and said to be more affordable and longer-lasting compared with kraft and synthetic-based medical packaging.
The product is suitable for use as a sustainable substitute for nasal swabs, syringes and other single-use medical applications.
Neenah’s paper-based products are made using fibres controlled by the FSC, which comply with regulatory standards and accept steam and ethylene oxide sterilisation methods.
