Clariant Healthcare Polymer Solutions, in partnership with SICPA, has launched PLASTIWARD, a new plastic-based anti-counterfeiting system.
The solution was revealed at the annual CPhI Worldwide event, which is being held from today until 6 October in Barcelona, Spain.
Through its partnership with SICPA, Clariant offers a covert taggant additive, which is available in polymer compounds or masterbatch concentrates.
The additive is manufactured using the same ISO 13485 protocols as the company's Mevopur brand of polymer colours and functional additives.
The taggants are then used in plastic, where they are detectable using SICPA’s deployment and monitoring platform.
The PLASTIWARD solution provides one seamless package that comprises security assessment, security system design, deployment and on-going performance monitoring.

By GlobalDataClariant has also launched a new series of Mevopur liquid colour and additive concentrates, including a USP / ISO range with amber colour for PET and PETG packaging, as well as concentrates that can be used in liquid silicone elastomers.
The liquid concentrates merge the benefits of Mevopur's ‘controlled, consistent and compliant’ formulation and manufacturing approach with Clariant’s Hi Former liquid-vehicle technology.
The company has also expanded its EQ line of humidity-control products.
The new EQ-Stopper can protect moisture-sensitive products packaged in tubes, while the EQ-Bag, which is available in 37g and 255g sizes, protects packages containing empty capsules, powders or other moisture-sensitive product ingredients.
Besides the existing EQ-Pak and EQ-Can products, the new launches actively control relative humidity (RH) in a pharmaceutical or nutraceutical package to within a particular range.
The group is also planning to expand its global manufacturing network, which includes plants in the US, France and China.
Clariant Healthcare Packaging is also constructing its fourth manufacturing facility in Cuddalore, India, which is expected to open in 2017.
