Folding cartons and rigid paper boxes specialist Colbert Packaging has introduced MedLock EZT to its patient compliance packaging solutions.
MedLock, which is a sustainable unit dose alternative to amber prescription vials, employs an integrated, patent-pending locking mechanism to lock a pill blister card in its outer paperboard shell.
The lock can be opened by squeezing and holding touch-points at one end of the paperboard shell while sliding the blister card out through the other.
Medication can be pressed through one of the individual blisters once the blister card is exposed, and the lock can be reengaged by sliding the blister card back into the outer shell.
Colbert Packaging product development vice-president Glenn Grosskopf said: "While patient non-adherence continues to plague the industry, and is often the primary driver behind a switch from non-descript pharmacy vials to branded unit dose packages, the packaging alternatives must do more than just promote adherence.
"MedLock EZ is a compact, all-in-one package that provides security and sustainability, and promotes patient adherence."
