Polythene bag manufacturer Duo UK has been selected by polymer distribution company Resin Trade to manufacture 100% recyclable sugarcane mailing bags from completely renewable sources.
The move is the latest in a series of green investments made by Duo UK.
Duo UK commercial director Anthony Brimelow said: "We’re seeing a strong increase in demand for green products, driven partly from our clients’ own corporate social responsibility policies and partly by clients reacting to their own customer demands."
Duo UK will now produce 100% recyclable mailing bags using Green PE, a thermoplastic resin made entirely from sugarcane ethanol, which cuts off CO2 from the atmosphere.
Developed by petrochemical producer Braskem, Green PE has been manufactured in southern Brazil from sugarcanes planted through strict ethical guidelines.
Braskem Europe and North America renewable chemicals commercial director Marco Jansen said: "Internet retailing is a growing market, mailing bags are a perfect application for Green PE and UK consumers are typically highly environmentally aware, so this partnership with Duo UK is particularly exciting for us.
