Germany’s Gerresheimer has signed a mutual agreement with Stevanato Group brand Ompi, to provide standardised solutions for the pharmaceutical packaging industry.
As part of the deal, Gerresheimer will use the Ompi EZ-fill packaging technology to develop its new Gx ready-to-fills (RTF) vials, which can be washed and sterilised in trays or in nests and tubs.

The Gx RTF vials will be based on the existing quality offerings for vials, such as PharmaPlus and Elite Glass.
By integrating the PharmaPlus and Elite Glass with Ompi EZ-fill packaging solution, Gerresheimer aims to provide one identically packed vial from two suppliers.
The Ompi EZ-fill solution is suitable either with small batches, initially at the clinical trials stage, or with industrial production.
Gerresheimer CEO Uwe Röhrhoff said: “Our new portfolio will meet the growing demand for comprehensive solutions.
“Together with Ompi we will make a further step towards establishing one standardised platform for ready-to-fill vials, which make the customer process very easy and smooth.”
The company currently provides vials in different sizes for specialist pharma drugs, as well as RTF glass syringes.
Stevanato Group pharmaceutical systems division general manager Mauro Stocchi said: “Our solution, which has proved to be scalable, will benefit the customer with more flexibility, increased quality and safety and quicker time to market.”
The company looks after its glass primary packaging activities through Ompi, which has presence in Italy, Slovakia, Mexico and China.
