Global rigid plastic film manufacturer Klöckner Pentaplast is planning to invest in a new laminated pharmaceutical film capacity at its site in Montabaur, Germany.

This plan is expected to expand its high-barrier film lamination and coating capacities.

As part of the expansion, the company will install a new system to produce Aclar-laminated pharmaceutical films at its Montabaur site, which currently provides kp film range for various industries.

"This capacity expansion is part of Klöckner Pentaplast’s long-term strategy to leverage our global footprint to maximise improvements."

The new line is set to begin by early next year and is scheduled to be fully operational for the entire kp Pentapharm Aclar product range by the end of 2017.

Klöckner Pentaplast EMEA pharmaceutical films business director Markus Pischulti said: "This capacity expansion is part of Klöckner Pentaplast’s long-term strategy to leverage our global footprint to maximise improvements across the value chain, with a focus on being even more responsive to our pharmaceutical customers’ needs now and in the future."

Following the expansion, the company’s facility in Bern, Switzerland, will be able to produce Polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC) coated, high-barrier pharmaceutical films, while continuing to be a backup site for Aclar lamination.

Klöckner Pentaplast provides packaging for pharmaceuticals, food, electronics, medical devices and printing applications worldwide.

With more than 3,200 employees, the company produces films at 18 plants located in 12 countries.
