US-based Action-Pak has entered a reselling partnership deal to distribute Applied DNA Sciences’ (APDN) DNA-based products, including tamper-evident labels with beacon technology.
The deal will also include APDN’s proprietary multi-mode reader solution in the future.
Action-Pak, a contract packaging services provider for military and commercial supply chains, will also supply beacon kits to help supply chain participants perform in-field validation of DNA labels.
Action-Pak CEO and president Ira Smith said: “Having participated with Applied DNA in a successful pilot of their forensic authentication and tracking solution, and recently selling DNA labels to a prime defence contractor, we are delighted to offer this solution to both military and commercial customers.
“Although our immediate focus is supporting and delivering a solution for military suppliers, we are keen to introduce this technology to our entire customer base which spans from food to pharmaceuticals to retail consumer goods.
“We strongly believe that DNA will become a low-cost solution for preventing counterfeit products from entering the supply chain.”
The company has already taken part in a logistics pilot project that used APDN’s SigNature DNA labels as part of a cloud-based ‘track-and-trace’ simulation.
The project, which was a part of APDN’s recently concluded rapid innovation fund (RIF) contract, evaluated and authenticated APDN’s packaging solutions.
Action-Pak currently operates food and non-food grade facilities that span more than 250,000ft² and are certified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
