UK-based Nice-Pak has introduced 100% recyclable packaging for wet wipes to enhance the sustainability of its products and packaging.
The company has been developing the product for 18 months to meet consumer demand and be more environmental.
The packaging team of Nice-Pak designed the recyclable film and resealable labels in collaboration with material suppliers.
According to the company, the film and labels can be recycled through existing facilities for carrier bags.
Initially, the wet wipe maker is planning to introduce the new packaging for its Aqualettes baby wipes brand.
Nice-Pak International packaging development manager Peter Bushell said: “We believe that both customers and consumers alike deserve more choice in meeting their environmental aspirations.
“The mono-polymer project has been technically challenging but we are proud to have achieved this UK first as part of our on-going efforts to improve the environmental footprint of our products.
“We have strived to render this product ‘recycle-ready’ to support the future development and harmonisation of the recycling infrastructure.”
In February 2018, 5,084 Worldpanel Plus panellists participated in the Kantar WP+ Kantar Worldpanel LinkQ survey and 42% of them ‘were keen for manufacturers to make packaging recyclable’.
Nice-Pak produces wipes across four categories, including baby, cosmetic, household and personal care. It currently operates facilities in Flint, Wigan, Germany and the US.
In October 2018, Nice-Pak implemented a new recycling concept RafCycle to recycle its labels. The company’s supply chain partner UPM Raflatac designed the concept.
