Sustainable, on-demand packaging company Packsize has partnered with EFI, a global technology company, for a new on-demand box system.
Dubbed X5 Nozomi, the system uses an automated solution and integrates full-colour printing on boxes.
The new solution is a fusion of Packsize’s X5 fully-automated, right-sized packaging on-demand system and EFI’s Nozomi single-pass digital inkjet printer line for corrugated packaging.
The X5 Nozomi system simplifies box production and enhances it by enabling the transition from plain monochrome boxes to those with full-colour, impactful digital images in just a few seconds.
The cost-effective solution also reduces labour and facilitates automation with ready-to-pack erected boxes.
It incorporates shipping and custom labels within the print design.

By GlobalDataPacksize CEO David Lockwood said: “The partnership with EFI and the innovation of the X5 Nozomi is a testament to our team’s commitment to reimagining what is possible and empowering brands to truly customise their customers’ unboxing experience.
“No other machine can go from blank corrugated to printed, right-sized, on-demand erected boxes in one solution – and in as little as six seconds per box.”
The X5 Nozomi has been launched in response to the growing consumer and government demand for sustainable packaging.
The solution reduces waste from oversized boxes and eliminates the need for void fillers such as plastic air pillows.
This significantly cuts shipping emissions and improves parcel logistics to fit 66% more boxes on freight and delivery carriers, noted Packsize.
EFI CEO Frank Pennisi said: “The corrugated box is becoming a more engaging experience. At the same time, unboxing videos are having a rising impact on brands even as digital ad influence declines due to oversaturation and ad-blocking.
“Essentially, packaging sells a product, which is why EFI partnered with Packsize – to empower brands in elevating their packaging quickly, simply, and cost-effectively with the X5 Nozomi.”
