Film manufacturing company Perlen Packaging is investing more than Sfr20m ($20.3m) in the expansion of its PVdC coating line capacity in Perlen, Switzerland, to increase the coating capacity.
The company has also started construction on a production facility at Wujiang, China, which is expected to become operational next year.
Perlen Packaging CEO Wolfgang Grimm said: "The Asian pharmaceutical markets are showing double-digit growth rates. As the first foreign company to set up a production facility in China, Perlen Packaging’s aim is to cater to the expected growth in the region and to better serve the markets from a local site."
Based in Switzerland, Perlen Packaging is a unit of industrial group CPH Chemie + Papier Holding.
The company operates three plants in Germany, Switzerland and the US, where it produces films ranging from mono-PVC to ultra-high-PVdC coated films for blister packaging.
Perlen Packaging sales and marketing director Johannes Giessler said: "The pharma markets in Europe are continually growing and the demand for barrier films is increasing.
