Protective packaging manufacturer Pregis has introduced a new inside-the-box shipping solution that is made using 80% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.
The new high-pressure air cushioning film is referred to as Pregis AirSpeed Hybrid Cushioning (HC) Renew PCR and is suitable for various cushioning and wrapping applications.
HC PCR has been designed to offer the same level of protection and durability that conventional air cushions offer while minimising overall environmental impacts.
This solution will address the requirements of companies seeking environmentally conscious and sustainable packaging solutions without compromising product performance.
According to Pregis, the high PCR content in this air cushioning film will allow the user to reuse it rather than have it discarded as waste, thereby saving energy and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
In comparison to traditional cushioning film that is typically made from virgin oil resin, Pregis said that a lifecycle analysis has showcased that HC PCR solution reduces fossil fuel usage by 65%, carbon emissions by 40%, and water usage by 70%.
