Packaging specialist Quad/Graphics is set to install the HP Indigo WS6800 digital press at its plant in Wisconsin, US, in order to expand its digital print capacity.

The move is in line with the company’s strategy to grow its variable data and short-run print capabilities for applications related to labeling, folding carton and flexible packaging.

The agreement for a deal was signed at Labelexpo 2014, where HP launched its Indigo WS6800 digital press in the US.

Quad/Graphics president of packaging Tom Garland said: "Quad/Graphics is committed to providing our customers with efficient, high-quality print solutions that support their brand promise, as well as drive results.

"Not only will the added capacity of the HP Indigo WS6800 digital press expand our robust digital print offering, we can also continue to grow and enhance our digital label and paperboard carton businesses with customisation and short-run capabilities."

HP claims that WS6800 delivers the industry’s highest crossover point in narrow-web production versus analogue for the vast majority of pressure-sensitive label jobs. Because of this, the press is capable of supporting rapid increase in volume of digitally produced labels.

The new machine comes equipped with advanced digital performance for different kinds of applications, including pressure-sensitive labels, in-mold labeling and shrink sleeves.
