RPC Promens Industrial, along with RPC PromensInnocan, has created a new range of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) containers for Dow AgroSciences.

Available in 10l and 15l variants, the environment-friendly containers will be used to pack Dow AgroSciences’ liquid crop protection formulations.

The containers feature a specially-designed safety top that enables them to be stacked automatically, eliminating the need for an outer cardboard box.

The square-shaped packs also include a centred 63mm neck, which is compatible with closed transfer systems and allows easier pouring.

In addition, bore seal caps have been used to reduce operator’s exposure to concentrated product and avoid additional sealing.

The pack’s safety top can be removed after use if a separation before recycling is required.

The new range is said to provide an improved palletisation pattern for added pallet loads, optimising logistics in terms of both pallet-fill and truck-fill rates.

"The new packs represent a major advance in terms of their lightweighting, improved logistics and elimination of the outer case, all of which have reduced their overall environmental impact.”

According to RPC, the increased pallet load and reduced bottle weight have led to a 20% decrease in CO² emissions per litre over the bottles' lifecycle, compared to the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) jerrycan being used by Dow AgroSciences.

The containers are also around 30% lighter than the HDPE cans they have replaced.

Dow AgroSciences EMEA packaging team said: “The new packs represent a major advance in terms of their lightweighting, improved logistics and elimination of the outer case, all of which have reduced their overall environmental impact.”

In a separate development, RPC announced that its PET Power division has developed a new 300ml container design, Asteria Oval, for use in all types of packaging applications.
